Terms of use

What you may do with CIVIC, what we undertake to deliver, and what we do not promise.

Purpose

These terms govern access to and use of the CIVIC service, both on www.civic-examencivique.fr and in your personal space. Creating an account constitutes acceptance of them.

The sale of subscriptions is covered by a separate document, the terms of sale.

The service is published by:

What the service is

CIVIC is a private tool for preparing for the French civic exam. It brings together practice questions, study sheets and timed mock exams in the format of the real assessment, along with progress tracking based on spaced repetition.

The Free plan is free and stays free. It gives access to one complete topic, two sets of questions and one timed mock exam. The CIVIC unlimited plan opens the five topics of the syllabus, and the sets of questions and mock exams without any counter.

Your account

Access to your personal space requires an account, created with a valid email address. An account is personal: it may not be shared or transferred. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for the actions taken from your account.

The service is aimed at adults engaged in a residence or naturalisation procedure. You undertake to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.

You may delete your account at any time from “Manage my account”. Deletion is final and entails the loss of your progress.

What CIVIC does not guarantee

This is the most important clause in these terms, and it deserves to be read in full.

No official answer key to the civic exam is published by the administration. The knowledge questions are derived from the public ministerial lists; the answer options, the correct answers and the explanations, however, are CIVIC’s own editorial work, subject to expert review. They are our best analysis, not an administrative truth, and cannot be presented as official.

CIVIC guarantees neither that you will pass the exam, nor that you will obtain a residence permit or French nationality. The service replaces neither official sources, nor administrative procedures, nor the language test, which remains a separate assessment. Information specific to your situation must be checked with your préfecture or on service-public.fr.

No administration requires you to go through a paying provider in order to prepare.

Permitted use

The service is open to you for personal preparation. The following are prohibited in particular:

Training providers, associations and employers wishing to equip several candidates have access to organisation accounts, described below.

Organisation accounts

An organisation may open seats for its learners and group them into cohorts. The organisation’s administrator then sees progress indicators for their cohort: advancement by topic, mock exams sat, regularity. They see neither the detail of the answers, nor personal data beyond what is necessary for educational follow-up.

Each learner remains the holder of their account and of their rights over their data. Leaving an organisation does not delete the account.

Availability and changes

The service is provided as is, with the reasonable means of a diligent publisher. It may be interrupted for maintenance, updates or an external cause — a provider outage, a network incident. No figure for availability is guaranteed.

Content and features evolve: questions are added, corrected or withdrawn as the applicable texts change and as expert review progresses. These changes are part of the service.

Your progress is attached to your account: you sign in from any device and pick up where you left off. The web service leaves nothing on the machine you are using; the mobile application, for its part, keeps a copy on the device so that you can revise offline.

Suspension and termination

In the event of a serious breach of these terms — bulk extraction of content, account sharing, an attempt to harm the service — access may be suspended and then terminated, after notice by email where circumstances allow.

Termination of a current subscription on that basis gives rise to no refund of periods already paid, without prejudice to the rights you hold under the law.

Intellectual property

The study sheets, answer options, explanations, scenario questions, editorial texts, visual identity and code of the service are CIVIC’s original work and remain its property. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-exclusive right of access for the duration of the subscription — it transfers no right over the content to you.

The syllabus markers derived from the lists published by the Ministry of the Interior are reused under the Licence Ouverte / Etalab 2.0, on the conditions recalled in the legal notice.

Liability

CIVIC is answerable for direct damage resulting from a breach of its obligations. It cannot be held liable for an administrative decision, an exam failure, a loss of progress caused by the user’s browser, or a use of the service contrary to these terms.

Nothing in these terms sets aside the rights that the law grants to consumers, in particular the legal guarantee of conformity.

Personal data

The processing of your data is described in the privacy policy, which forms an integral part of these terms.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be amended to reflect a change in the service or in the applicable rules. Account holders are informed by email of substantial changes at least one month before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.

Applicable law

These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought before any legal action. The remedies open to consumers are recalled in the terms of sale.
